Find Shelby County Traffic Court Records

Start any Shelby County traffic court records search with the ticket itself, since the paper lists the date your response is due. Every traffic infraction and local ordinance case in the county lands in one trial-court division, so a single court handles the docket for Shelbyville, Morristown, Fairland, and the smaller towns alike. Statewide lookup tools give the public its first look at a case. Search by ticket number or by your identifying details. From there, you can pay an eligible ticket or go to court and contest it. Always confirm the current setting before you act.

Traffic Court Records in Shelby County

One judge handles it all. Shelby Superior Court 2 takes every traffic infraction in Shelby County, marked case type IF. It also takes ordinance violations marked OV or OE under the local caseload plan. The court sits at 407 S. Harrison Street in Shelbyville. The phone number is 317-392-6340. Shelbyville, Morristown, Fairland, St. Paul, and Edinburgh run no separate city or town ticket court. The Shelby County Clerk keeps the official court file. A public ticket search can surface the ticket number. It can also show the case number, filing date, amount, and a pay button. For the fuller CCS, use MyCase. It shows court events, the plea, settings, orders, and disposition. Still, only the Clerk's file is the record of authority.

Indiana Pay Search for Shelby County Tickets

Begin at Indiana Pay/Search. The live form gives you three ways in: the Ticket (UTT) number, a driver's license number, or first and last name with date of birth in MM/DD/YYYY format. Leading zeroes count on a UTT search. The middle initial is optional on the name route.

This portal earns its keep when you lack a cause number. What it returns is a payment and citation view. It is not the full Shelby County CCS.

How to Look Up a Shelby County Traffic Ticket

Work through every channel before giving up. A blank result is not a final answer. Not every citation is online or eligible for payment there. A brand-new ticket may not have reached the court system yet. The state portal advises waiting and retrying when fewer than ten business days have passed.

  1. Read the citation for the UTT, court, response instruction, and appearance date.
  2. Run the full UTT in Indiana Pay/Search, preserving leading zeroes.
  3. If it fails, try the license-number or name-and-birth-date route.
  4. Open MyCase and search the public Shelby court CCS by citation, cause number, or name.
  5. Use Indiana Court Calendar to confirm a near-term public setting.
  6. After ten business days, call Superior Court 2 at 317-392-6340 or visit the court and Clerk counters at 407 S. Harrison.

Need a filed paper or certified copy? Contact the Shelby County Clerk in Room 111. The office takes record requests by fax at 317-392-6339 or by email to clerkfax@co.shelby.in.us. A public computer is available at the courthouse, though the Clerk publishes no general mail or drop-box channel for record requests.

Ten-Day Shelby County Ticket Posting Gap

A "no result" message has three common causes. The citation may not have posted yet. The search value may be wrong, or the case simply is not offered through Pay/Search. Keep the paper citation. Retry if the ticket is less than ten business days old. Try another permitted search before calling anyone. Once the ten-day interval passes, contact Superior Court 2 rather than assuming no response is due.

Do not wait past the paper date: The ticket or summons controls the required response even when an online search has not yet found the case.

Finding Your Shelby County Traffic Court Date

Read the citation or summons first for an appearance date. Indiana Court Calendar is the next near-term check. MyCase holds the historical CCS setting entries. A reset only adds a later event; it does not erase the old one. Compare the current calendar against the latest order. If the entries conflict or the public calendar is blank, call Superior Court 2.

Citation or cause numberA UTT comes from the ticket; a Shelby infraction case may follow a pattern such as 73D02-2501-IF-000123. This is a format example, not a real case.
CourtShelby Superior Court 2, identifier 73D02, handles traffic and ordinance matters.
Date and timeThe ticket controls initially; public admit-deny infraction settings are listed for Thursday at 8:30 AM.
Location407 S. Harrison Street, first-floor south end, Shelbyville.
StatusCheck the newest CCS setting or order, not only an older calendar entry.

Indiana Court Calendar shows a date, time, case, court, description, and judicial officer when supplied. It spans the past seven days and the next four weeks, and some courts omit schedules. A missing entry does not mean the hearing was canceled.

Shelby County Thursday Admit-Deny Settings

Thursday is traffic day. Superior Court 2's local instructions set admit-deny infraction settings for Thursday at 8:30 AM. A ticket stamped "Call" or "Contact Court" is directing you to Superior Court 2. At the admit-deny setting, you state your response: admit the citation, answer no contest, or deny it. A denial sets a trial date for later. This setting is not the trial itself, just a procedural step on the traffic CCS. Remote attendance takes court approval. That approval is requested in a written Zoom ask under the court's published policy, generally at least two workdays ahead. Never assume an online link excuses you from showing up.

Paying or Contesting a Shelby County Ticket

Pay only when the state tool calls the ticket eligible. The Clerk can also approve a local route. To contest, respond through the court; a denial brings a later trial setting. Keep one thing clear. The court itself is not part of any talk with the Deputy Prosecutor. The official sources list no Shelby-specific fine schedule. They also list no deferred-disposition amount, no defensive-driving deadline, and no photo-enforcement program.

Paying the ticketContesting the ticket
Use Pay/Search only if it offers payment, or follow the Clerk's approved payment route.Attend or respond as the citation and Superior Court 2 direct.
The payment and case disposition become court events.A denial results in a trial date entered in the court record.
Use the ticket deadline and verify the amount shown for that case.Use the appearance date; do not infer that a portal delay extends it.

Missed response: Failure to appear can lead to default judgment or other court action, followed by separate court reporting to the Indiana BMV.

Shelby County Traffic Payment Codes

Each code routes a different kind of money. GovPay code 5914 covers traffic. Code 5915 covers court costs and fines. Code 5916 covers child support. Phone card payments carry a 5 percent service fee with a $5 minimum. Online, the card fee is 3.5 percent with a $3.50 minimum. These are vendor charges, not a Shelby ticket fine schedule. The Court Services payment instructions spell out the county's in-person, mail, and card channels.

Shelby County Court Services traffic and court cost payment channels

These codes only tell the clerk where to send your money. The ticket itself, along with the Shelby County court docket entry, still sets the exact amount and decides whether online payment is allowed.

Court Traffic Record vs Driver Record

Two different files exist here. The Shelby County Clerk holds the court record for the citation. The Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles keeps a separate state driving record. Each file answers a different question. From the court side you get the charge. You also get the court dates on the docket, the plea, orders, the disposition, and case payments. The BMV file only receives reportable outcomes and handles its own processing.

Expect some lag on the BMV side. The BMV allows up to ten business days to process court information, and that delay says nothing about what the Shelby court actually decided. So when a reported outcome looks incomplete on the driving record, check the Shelby County court file first.

Pay Search Is Not Shelby County's Full CCS

A Pay/Search result shows a lot at a glance. You see name and address, ticket date and number, court, case number, filed date, balance categories, and payment control. It is built for one job, finding and paying an eligible citation. MyCase gives you the wider story. That is where the full chronological court history lives. A result found in one system is worth chasing into the other whenever you need setting history, a plea, an order, or disposition context. Behind both public views sits the Shelby County Clerk with the official file. Some document images still take a Clerk request to obtain. The split matters most when a balance shows. Then you need to know which order created it, or whether a later hearing was entered on the docket.

Fees and Shelby County Traffic Copies

Copies come with set rates. The Shelby County Clerk charges $1 per page for a plain court copy and $4 per page for a certified copy, with no separate search fee, abstract fee, or transcript rate. At the records counter, payment comes first, by cash, business check, or money order, and that request process takes no credit card.
