How to Search the Morristown Court Docket
Begin with Indiana MyCase, the free public search covering nonconfidential Odyssey cases. Morristown is not one of the court filters. Pick a Shelby court. Or leave the search open to all courts when the division is unclear. The Case tab takes a cause number, citation number, or cross-reference number. The Name tab handles people and businesses.
- Collect the cause number, party spelling, approximate filing date, and case type.
- Choose Case or Name in MyCase and enter the most exact value available.
- Narrow to Shelby Circuit, Superior 1, or Superior 2 when the paper identifies it.
- Open the matching Chronological Case Summary, or CCS.
- Read the newest setting, order, status, and disposition rather than only the case header.
- Use the court phone or Shelby County Clerk if the matter or document remains absent.
A trailing wildcard matches names or case prefixes that begin with the text you type. Sounds-like helps when a name has variations, though it cannot run together with the wildcard. If a common Morristown name floods the results, apply the status and filing-date filters to cut the list down.
Morristown Court Docket Uses County Filters
MyCase sorts records by court and cause number, not by the town where something happened. A Morristown address can help you spot the right party. Typing "Morristown" as though it were a court, though, will not pull the correct docket. For Shelby, the prefixes matter. They are 73C01, 73D01, and 73D02.
Town name is context: Identify the Shelby court from the citation, summons, CCS result, or cause-number prefix before narrowing a Morristown search.
Older material may still carry the abolished County Court identifier 73E01. That prefix is no longer an active Morristown destination. Enter an old cause number exactly as written, and if the historic file is not digitized, ask the Clerk.
The Morristown Municipal Court
The Indiana Courts Directory and the official Odyssey list show no current Morristown Municipal Court. The town's government page offers municipal information. It posts no judicial calendar, ticket database, or court docket. Instead, Morristown-connected cases land in Shelby Circuit Court, Shelby Superior Court 1, or Shelby Superior Court 2. Magistrate proceedings may also apply, assigned under one of those courts. The distinction matters beyond names. The Shelby County Clerk, not any Morristown town office, maintains and certifies the case files. Whatever court appears in the cause number controls the settings and orders. To dig deeper, read the CCS in MyCase. Check Indiana Court Calendar for a near-term hearing. Or ask the Clerk for a missing document.
Morristown Government and Court Docket Records
The official Morristown government page establishes the town-government route, not a court-case lookup.

That page separates two custodians. Morristown government handles town business; Shelby's courts and Clerk handle Morristown court docket entries, hearings, filings, and copies. A dispute or citation that arose in Morristown does not belong at a town department. Read the court printed on the legal paper. No paper in hand? Search MyCase by party name and narrow the results to Shelby County.
Morristown Court Dates and Settings
For a fast schedule check, use the Indiana Court Calendar. Choose Shelby County, select the court if you like, pick a date within the available range, and add a case number or case name if that helps. Participating courts appear for the prior seven days and the next four weeks.
| Date and time | The public session date and times supplied by the court. |
|---|---|
| Case | The cause number and case style or caption. |
| Court | Shelby Circuit Court, Superior Court 1, or Superior Court 2. |
| Description | The hearing or setting label entered by the court. |
| Judicial officer | The judge or officer when the court provides the name. |
Keep in mind the public calendar is not the official CCS, and schedules can be missing from it. A blank result never cancels a Morristown hearing. Trust the citation, summons, order, and newest CCS setting first, then call the assigned court.
Confirming a Morristown Court Docket Hearing
Rely on the case's own documents before any general calendar search. A continuance or reset shows up as a new CCS event. The old setting stays in the history. The newest signed order and the court's current instruction govern. The Clerk keeps the filed request and order on file. But the court alone decides whether the hearing stands, moves, or allows remote attendance. Call Circuit at 317-392-6360, Superior 1 at 317-392-6350, Superior 2 at 317-392-6340, or Magistrate at 317-421-1400. A Zoom appearance in Superior 2 takes an advance written request and court approval. Plan for generally at least two workdays ahead. Watching an online livestream is not the legal record. It does not by itself permit remote participation.
Morristown Traffic Tickets
Under the current local caseload plan, every Shelby County traffic infraction and ordinance violation goes to Superior Court 2. A Morristown citation therefore follows 73D02 unless the ticket names another venue. Start with Indiana Pay/Search, then open MyCase for the full CCS. Pay/Search takes the Ticket or UTT number with leading zeroes. A driver's license number also works. So does first and last name plus date of birth in MM/DD/YYYY format. Not every citation shows up there or qualifies for online payment. If the ticket is under ten business days old, keep the paper and try again. After ten business days, switch to MyCase and contact Superior Court 2. The printed response date still counts while the online posting catches up.
Morristown Court Docket UTT Search
The UTT is the fastest bridge between a Morristown paper citation and the court case. A Pay/Search result may display a ticket date and number, court, cause number, filing date, balance categories, and a payment option when eligible. Remember it is a ticket interface. The full chronological case record lives elsewhere.
| Available clue | Search route | Next check |
|---|---|---|
| Full UTT | Ticket-number field with leading zeroes | Open the linked court and cause number. |
| No ticket paper | License-number field | Verify the Morristown citation date. |
| No number | First name, last name, and birth date | Compare MyCase CCS results. |
Superior Court 2 releases its admit-deny infraction settings each Thursday at 8:30 AM. If a ticket reads "Call" or "Contact Court," dial 317-392-6340. Denying the infraction sets a trial date; the first setting alone closes nothing.
Where Morristown Cases End Up
Superior Court 2 handles traffic, ordinance, misdemeanor, and small-claims cases in Morristown. It also takes assigned felony and civil work. The rest spreads out. Circuit and Superior 1 split many civil, domestic, probate, juvenile, protection-order, and felony filings under Shelby County local rules. A case can move between courts. When it transfers or consolidates, the Clerk notes the change in the CCS. The court characters on the cause number get updated too.
Docket flow: Morristown event or dispute › Shelby County caseload assignment › Shelby Circuit Court or Shelby Superior Court 1 / Superior Court 2.
The Shelby County court docket lays out that allocation countywide. Searching a Morristown case works best when you track the exact cause number and the newest CCS entry, not the kind of local agency involved.
Morristown Court Docket Cause Code 73D02
Take 73D02-2501-IF-000123 as a format sample only; no such record exists. Each piece has meaning. County code 73 stands for Shelby. D02 marks Superior Court 2, and 2501 encodes the filing year and month. IF means infraction, and the trailing digits give the sequence. Morristown traffic and ordinance lookups often land on this identifier.
73C01: Shelby Circuit Court.
73D01: Shelby Superior Court 1.
73D02: Shelby Superior Court 2.
CCS: The dated Chronological Case Summary of court events.
That cause number outlasts any town name, staying with the file through every transfer. Rely on it for calendar checks, phone questions, copy requests, and payments.
Public Access to Morristown Court Records
Indiana starts from openness. Records Rule 4 presumes public access to court records. A law, rule, or order can exclude them. Rule 5 covers confidential categories and the redaction of sensitive identifiers. Rule 9 gives a process for asking access to excluded material. Indiana APRA likewise allows inspection and copying, subject to statutes and judiciary rules.
Not everything shows up, though. Sealed, juvenile, expunged, protection-order, and similar confidential matters may stay out of ordinary MyCase results. A routine Clerk request cannot lift a restriction. A case header with no document link can simply mean the image is unavailable remotely. That happens often with an older Morristown file. Ask the Clerk before deciding the paper never existed.
Public docket, limited image: A visible CCS event can remain public even when the related filed document is restricted or not digitized.

Morristown Court Docket Population Context
STATS Indiana puts Morristown's Shelby County population at 1,183 in 2025, down from 1,205 in the 2020 Census. Unlike St. Paul and Edinburgh, that figure carries no cross-county share flag. Size does not earn the town its own judicial tier. One county system still carries public Morristown court records.
That is why the state and county route beats hunting through town departments. Morristown supplies the setting, but the cause number, the assigned Shelby court, the CCS, and the Clerk file hold the actual judicial record.
Reading a Morristown Court Docket Result
A MyCase result can carry a lot. Expect the cause number, case caption, public parties and attorneys, case type, filing date, status, and a running sequence of filed events. Entries may show service, motions, settings, rulings, orders, judgments, disposition, or financial activity. Treat the display with care. Not every event has a downloadable image. An online balance can trail the official file.
| Morristown result field | Question it answers |
|---|---|
| Court and cause number | Which Shelby division maintains the case? |
| Case type and status | What kind of matter is it, and is it open or closed? |
| Newest CCS event | What happened most recently? |
| Setting entry | What date, time, and hearing type were entered? |
| Document link | Is a public image available remotely? |
Common names need checking. Match several fields before you trust a result. For an official order or judgment, request the filed page from the Shelby County Clerk rather than treating the public display as a certified copy.
Morristown Court Docket Search Mistakes
Three local mistakes can hide a Morristown record. First, picking a town office instead of a Shelby court sends the search astray. The wrong custodian gets the request. Morristown has municipal departments, but no Morristown judicial portal operates. Second, treating 73E01 as active can misroute an old Morristown cause number. The active Shelby identifiers are 73C01, 73D01, and 73D02. Third, trusting an old CCS setting without the newest event can point to a stale date. The Morristown case may no longer use it.
Start with the legal paper. The citation, summons, order, or cause number names the assigned court. Then search MyCase for the Morristown case history. Check Court Calendar for the near-term public schedule. Call the court about any live setting. Bring in the Clerk only for the filed record, a missing image, or certification.
A blank portal screen deserves context too. A new Morristown citation may not have posted yet. A broad name can exceed MyCase limits, or a restricted case may be excluded. Change one search field at a time. Keep leading zeroes. Drop an uncertain date limit. Test the exact cause number, then fall back on the county. That beats assuming the Morristown court docket does not exist.
